Mai Fukui – MY SONG FOR YOU

March 7, 2009

I just discover a new addiction to a new JPop artist, Mai Fukui after listening to her debut album [MY SONG FOR YOU]. She is like a crossover between ayaka and Miho Fukuhara, in her style of music is like that towards ayaka but her voice is more like a cross between ayaka and Miho Fukuhara. Her voice is a bit deep, coarse but soothing and soft at times especially when she sings ballad songs.

Mai Fukui

Mai Fukui first released “Ai no Uta” as a theme song for Koizora TV series on 20 August 2008. This is the strongest song on her debut album and also strongest single as it reached the top 20 on Oricon chart. The PV is very simple and much better than “Can Can” clip, showing her singing on the fields of green, singing and blown by the wind. I like her dress on the music clip, a white flowy dress like shown on this pic below.

Her other two singles next released didn’t fare so well like its predecessor single, both “Lucky” released on 19 November 2008 and “Can Can” released on 4 February 2009. PV for “Can Can” was a bit boring, just showing her hitting drums and singing on a kinda black and white background. I just looked at the screencaps and don’t even bother looking at the whole PV, but the song is a cheerful-guitar-pop-rock-fun song, it is building to get better at the chorus. I like the part where the guitar remains strumming throughout the song.

Mai Fukui - My Song for You

I must say I almost like the whole tracks on the album, with my favourites including the ballads “Ai no Uta”, “Aoi E”, “Promise You”, and “My Song for You” and more uptempo “I wanna be a rock roll star” and “Hate Myself”. Overall the whole album has the whole balance of pop and rock vibes within. The whole tracks in the album is totally worth listening. I really recommend this to anyone wanting to try listening to new JPop artists and any fans of ayaka or Miho Fukuhara.
